So this is horrible

Completely horrible, via pogge:

A Vancouver musician named Nicole Scoffield wrote a song to commemorate the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and sent the song to the organizing committee to see if they would consider using it as part of the event. The response she got seems outlandish even by the standards VANOC has already set.

She got a shock when officials at VANOC sent her a contract demanding she give up ownership and royalties — even before they would listen to it.

The agreement would also give the organizing committee unrestricted rights to use the song however they saw fit.

I’m trying to come up with a good “In fairness to the officials at VANOC” sentence, but I’ve got nothing. My initial thought was I guess it narrows down the large selection of songs being sent in, but then it would also make it a lot harder to find anything good, since a lot of people who might not want to give up all rights to the song right off the bat may be willing to if they knew how it would be used.

Without the actual contract it’s a little hard to be sure, but it definitely seems to point towards gross stupidity. Everything always does.
